Workshop Information
Fritz Frederick Smith, founder of Zero Balancing, demonstrating a foot fulcrum.
Penny Baird and James Salomons are pleased to announce their first workshop together as teachers.
This workshop is the perfect introduction to Zero Balancing. It teaches you the essence of Zero Balancing: the Core Protocol, which you will be able to perform in a basic form at the end of this workshop, so you can take this home to practice on friends and family.
Penny has been practising Zero Balancing since 2010. She qualified as a ZB Teacher in 2025. Her other qualifications include Kinesiology, Soul Midwifery & garden design. She has four children and lives near Dunkeld. You can read more about James here.
You will be supported by this experienced team as you develop your touch skills and integral understanding. A Zero Balancing workshop is an experience of learning through the discovery and embodiment of Zero Balancing principles.
The learning is a dynamic balance of teaching, shared understandings, demonstrations, and lots of practice on the couches with each other, and with teachers. A full session will be performed on each student over the course of the workshop.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- The practice, principles and theory of Zero Balancing
- How to touch body energy and anatomical structure simultaneously
- How to develop conscious touch
- The structural/energetic anatomy of the skeleton and joints
- The practical methods of Zero Balancing – fulcrums & vectors
- To give and receive constructive feedback as you share your learning
- A protocol for giving a core Zero Balancing session
Participants will receive a Core Zero Balancing Study Guide to refer to.
Snacks and drinks will be provided, however you will need to source your own lunch. There are plenty of cafés and eateries within walking distance of the venue so that shouldn't prove a challenge! The Youth Hostel also has its own canteen and bar area.
The venue is a 15 minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station, a 10 minute walk from Edinburgh Bus Station, a 5 minute walk from the nearest tram stop (McDonald Road) and a 3 minute walk from the nearest bus stop (Elm Row). If you're coming from the airport then the tram is by far the best way to get to the venue.
If you are in need of accommodation, then you may wish to check room availability at the nearby Youth Hostel where many previous students have stayed. Failing that, Edinburgh is full of hotels, bed and breakfasts and Airbnbs.
